Stockholm’s largest meeting place for Scandinavian design, furniture and lights since 1951 is the Stockholm Furniture and Lights fair. Scheduled to happen between the 7th and 11th of February, the event is set to start the design year of 2023 along with the Stockholm design week.
Over 40,000 visitors from 60 countries and 1100 media representatives are estimated to visit the fair. About 400 furniture, lighting and textile brands are said to exhibit at this year’s fair.
Invitees include contemporary galleries, design dealers, producers and independent artists who will also present their products along with international brands. The fair delivers a rich program of content from lectures, and design and architecture talks. Abundant media exposure for its exhibitors and visitors.
Along with meeting exhibitors of renowned brands like ateljé Lyktan and Technogym, this year’s Stockholm Furniture fair hosts events, talks and various activities for the public and the design community.
Attendees can expect an impressive display by brand leaders such as Herman Miller, Arper, Pedrali and Normann Copenhagen. Those particularly keen on exploring corporate furniture should prepare for an extensive display of the latest products from Bisley, Interstuhl, Humanscale, Moroso, and SilentLAB. Look out for Andreu World, as they participate in the Stockholm Light and Furniture in association with master designer Philippe Starck. Offecct’s stand, designed by Gwenaëlle Girard, shall focus on bold colours and soft furniture, which is a growing niche in the world of corporate and co-working spaces.
Flooring is the new wallpaper, and if anyone is looking for elements to add that pinch of panache to spaces, manufacturers and brands such as Bolon, Ege Carpets, Object Carpet and Interface are set to present their newest lines and ample collections to level up flooring games. Along with them, Porcelanosa and Neolith shall ooze the charm of classic natural textures, subdued hues and supreme quality.
Aritco, one of the leading manufacturers of lifts, has an exciting line-up as they showcase their newly released home elevator Aritco HomeLift Compact – the most space-efficient lift from the brand. Exhibited for the first time, onlookers can experience this elevator at Stockholm Light and Furniture Fair. Attendees will also be welcomed into a VR-based meeting space, the Aritco Virtual Showroom. Here, one can move and interact with the lifts from Aritco, listen to presentations and ask questions about the products.
Älvsjö Gård, a farm located close to the fair, sets the stage for collective and experimental design. The organizers are also about to launch their own interactive application to cover the events of the fair and design week.
Greenhouse is another highlight of the show which is a platform for new talents to showcase their cutting-edge prototypes.
They get to meet manufacturers from the furniture industry and discuss their work. It is dedicated to motivating emerging designs and designers who push the boundaries between art and design. Through this, they provide a platform for bespoke objects, methods and ideas. Ung Svensk Form, a touring exhibition and scholarship for designers till the age of 36 or younger will be a part of this year’s edition for all young and aspiring designers.
Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks
This segment is the fair’s knowledge and discussion forum for the design community. This year’s talks are themed “visionary thinking” encouraging innovation, conversation and growth. Keynote speakers include Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis, Ukrainian architect Slava Balbek, British designer and design journalist, Ilse Crawford and Chief Creative Officer at Ingka Group (IKEA Retail), Marcus Engman.
This is a new concept added to the list of highlights that focuses on sustainability. Based on the principle of simplicity and a step to enforce the importance of sustainability a part of the exhibition is offered to smaller stands which are created from 100 per cent recycled material. These stands will be recycled after the event as well.
One of the highlights of the fair is the Guest of Honor, a designer or design team who is selected and creates the entrance installation that would set the tone for the event’s edition. The guest of honour for this year is a Swedish Design Studio, Front.
Awards are a significant part of events which creates an opportunity to recognize, acknowledge and reward great ideas and the successful execution of design projects. Editor’s choice award and the Born classic awards are usually a part of the Stockholm Furniture fair. This year, Stockholm design week will be launching its own award ceremony in association with It is Media to celebrate designers from their region.
