Best of Neocon 2022 – Part 1

After a two-year gap, Neocon returned in full form back to its usual summer program. The air was buzzing with excitement and enthusiasm as design enthusiasts worldwide came down to Chicago to see what was new and trending. Common themes this year were agility, sustainability, resimercial design, and phone booths.

For those of you who missed it, here are six great products we spotted at Neocon!

This sleek product from Arper is the result of a single sheet of steel bent into a slender, sculptural table. Incredibly thin and light, Aeeri radically dematerializes the table with a minimalist gesture, tracing the form’s line to find its very essence. Aeeri’s illusionistic form is a feat of monocoque construction inspired by high-tech engineering. All of this is a part of Arper’s Project Living – to live flexible, sustainably, and comfortably.

Compose Echo Workspaces

Haworth put on a beautiful show at The Mart, with a focus on the new age office born of emerging society shifts. One of the primary products focused on were the Compost Echo Workspaces – a menu of innovative modular workstation components for an unmatched user experience. Each element was thoughtfully designed to fit together to maximize space and human performance, with the freedom to easily switch between work modes.

Zeph Chair

A new task chair designed by Studio 7.5, the same creative force behind Cosm. The impressive chair is deceptively comfortable for something so minimal and comes in an exciting array of colours. The Zeph Chair finds a happy home between midcentury modern aesthetics and the research-backed ergonomics of today’s work chairs. Its advanced yet simple design offers more for less—more comfort, colours, and style—made with fewer components.

There’s no way you can say you visited Neocon 2022 without having seen a phone booth or pod of sorts. For us, HushHybrid really stood out – a new acoustic pod for individual focused work and lengthy videoconferences or webinars. The pod is equipped with the essential elements needed such as supportive seating, an adjustable table, VESA mount for screen installation and LED side lighting for facial illumination

LimeLite Seating

The winner of the Best of Neocon Silver Award for seating, Limelight “elevates the expectation for seating with a trifecta of architecturally inspired aesthetics, user comfort and flexibility for a variety of uses”, according to Julie Stadtmueller, senior product marketing manager at KI.

Steelcase’s showroom was exceptionally good, and worth spending at least a good 2 hours on. Worth checking out was Everwall, a prefabricated wall system offering the right balance of acoustic performance, aesthetic options and price. It also enables the fastest installation, making life easier for both designers and installers.
