Ecomedes Partners with Love That Design

Ecomedes is a digital aggregator of sustainably driven products connected to  the leading global certification bodies. The company exists on the belief that enterprises do not have to make a choice between profit and sustainability. In fact, sustainability can drive profit.

Love That Design’s partnership with Ecomedes will allow architects, designers and all those seeking products for their interior spaces, to click on the Ecomedes logo on LTD and be privy to a wealth of knowledge and sustainability info instantly. No more wading through reams of pages on the internet, or hunting around for local sustainability experts.

Ecomedes’ founders have developed a way to simplify sustainability and scale green building faster, with a dynamic software platform. Their mission is to help enterprises reduce costs through optimised product evaluation and purchasing. The goal is to increase profit by improving their impact and benefiting the entire market ecosystem. Their motto: Good for business. Good for profit. Good for your career. Good for humanity.

Kathleen Egan is Co-Founder and CEO at Ecomedes

The Ecomedes team believe that finding, comparing, and optimising the selection of sustainable building products for any project should not derail a project schedule or require a specialised consultant. They have simplified this process to save designers and contractors both time and money.

In a conversation with CEO and Co-Founder Kathleen Egan, here is what we learnt about Ecomedes’ aim and ethos.

“We started Ecomedes to make it easy to do the right thing. Most designers, builders and building owners want sustainable buildings. In some cases they need sustainable buildings to satisfy shareholders and leaders. However, they don’t have the levers they need for sustainable building products. We give them the levers.”

“Love that Design has the ear and the eye of top designers. These designers don’t always have time to learn about all the certifications necessary to achieve their desired outcome. So, LTD can ensure that sustainability and product transparency are at the heart of the designers’ process.”

What are your plans for growth within the US and globally?

We currently focus on brands that sell in North America. but do help construction teams all over the world. Our database was started in 2016 with just six certifications. Now we aggregate and organise over 40 product-level certifications and four building rating rating systems that are used all over the world.

What is Ecomedes’ role in the A&D industry?

Our primary role is to make it ‘brainless’ to specify and select sustainable materials. Many designers are under equipped when it comes to making sense of the mountain of certifications required for a system like LEED, or the Federal Government Green Procurement Compilation, or a system like the University of California Responsible Procurement Requirements. Our role is to be the bridge between the growing demand for sustainable buildings and the growing supply of sustainable, transparent building products. We are making this communication easier and the process for sustainability the path of least resistance.

What do you hope to see in the future, what would you like to achieve?

Our Utopia would be a virtuous cycle where demand and supply are working harmoniously and efficiently across a wide array of Key Sustainability Indicators. These include carbon, energy, water, waste, toxins, and social impact. When the impact of every building is as transparent and easy to understand as a nutritional label, manufacturers will have no choice but to rise to the occasion with continually more transparent and sustainable building products.

How can Love That Design help in achieving this dream?

Love that Design has the ear and the eye of top designers. These designers don’t always have time to learn about all the certifications necessary to achieve their desired outcome. So, LTD can ensure that sustainability and product transparency are at the heart of the designers’ process.
