Seating and Tables that Evolve With Time

In the throes of Salone del Mobile, Milano, global brand Arper as usual makes a splash with a range of new furniture collections that embody the brand’s supreme design ethos with flexibility, comfort and sustainability in mind. Here are the five new launches at Arper in Milan.

Arper is a name synonymous with sophistication and style, their products balanced with a comfort and flexibility that allows us to work well across multiple scenarios. Taking a human-centred approach to design, Arper products uphold the highest standards in quality and sustainability, showing great regard and respect for our planet. The Arper team describes their design ethos as one based on the versatility of essential forms that have evolved to include six core concepts – Balance, Family, Intuition, Light, Colour and Play.

From this ethos come five incredible new products, each unique in their style and character, yet staying true to Arper’s brand values.

Designed in partnership with Doshi Levien, Shaal is an expansion of Arper’s exquisite sofa product lines. Structured and soft like a basket of pillows, Shaal wraps around us in a welcoming embrace, inviting tactility and warmth into any space, from residential to contract. It blends exceptional comfort with a flexible configuration, creating a product that is truly synonymous with Arper’s ethos. A supportive shell cradles Shaal’s deep cushions, elevating the gracious form off the ground. Shaal’s distinctive design is derived from its dualities – tailored yet plush, generous yet weightless, anchoring yet adaptable, sustainable yet luxurious. The Shaal system comprises six core modules, each thoughtfully designed as a beautiful standalone object. Components can be mixed and matched to create traditional customizations, or if you’re feeling adventurous, try something new for your home or office. An upholstered rigid panel creates a high back that cradles Shaal’s supremely plush cushions. Both panel and cushions allow for unbounded expressivity with an endless combination of materials.

Aeeri – Designed by Peter Kunz as a brand new collaboration with Arper in 2022

Inspired by the beautiful art of origami and the forms that come out of it, Aeeri bends a single sheet of steel into a slender, sculptural table. With an incredibly thin and light profile, this product takes on a minimalist form that brings out the shape to find its very essence. The result is a timeless and elegant table that’s pure in form and aesthetically clean. The seemingly illusionistic form is a feat of monocoque construction inspired by high-tech engineering. Aeeri is created from a single sheet of folded steel just one mm thick, with a tabletop that is rigid and strong, yet finds its way on slanted floors. Aeeri is equally at home in an atelier as it is in a dining room. Available in black, white or red-painted steel, the top pairs with matching metal legs, available in two different heights for a sophisticated industrial look, or wooden legs in FSC-certified European oak in natural or black finishes.

This beautiful new collection of low tables designed by Studio Altherr Désile Park features design that embodies expressive spatial landscapes. The new Ghia collection of low tables with soft, sculptural forms and tactile, nature-inspired materials balance the geometric and the organic, infusing a sense of harmony and calm. With countless configuration options, Ghia invites customization, and opens up the imagination to endless possibilities. The low table system presents a diverse array of forms and finishes to create nearly endless combinations that play well in nearly every setting, expanding Ghia’s use cases to more than commercial or residential. Bases are available in three different heights and two shapes, and table top options include a large size in an organic shape, as well as small and medium sizes in a circular shape.

Jean-Marie Massaud manages to design a table that finds the equilibrium between utility and beauty. Designed to serve in all settings, Oell’s offset leg and cantilevered table top nestle astride an armchair or a sofa, presenting a convenient, comfortable surface for working, reading or dining. Essential in form and exquisite in its material expression, Oell is quiet but full of character. This sculptural side table balances on a cylindrical base as smooth and substantial as a stone. With two heights, two table-top diameters, and a considerable palette of

finishes, Oell makes it easy to mix and match elements. It is also designed to blend with any space or exist alone as a showpiece. The sculptural metal base and column are available in black or white finishes that complement its essential form, as well as ivory and rust-coloured options inspired by the warmth of residential spaces. Both top sizes come in black or white MDF, in addition to elegant porcelain stoneware in dark or light colourways. Designed with longevity in mind, Oell can be easily disassembled and reassembled with every move.

Juno 02Designed by James Irvine in 2012, Juno was recalibrated in 2022 by Marialaura Irvine of Studio Irvine as Juno 02

The Juno chair shows up in a subtle yet strong manner, and exemplifies how plastic can still hold new possibilities. The first version of Juno, released in 2012, redefined the plastic chair within a minimal gesture of its slim silhouette. A decade later, its successor reimagines this expression in sustainable plastic and a new palette inspired by the natural world. An incredibly simple and sleek chair that stays true to the Arper style, June 02’s subtle texture and finish bring refined materiality to the classic form. Made with 70 percent post-industrial recycled plastic, June 02 comes in six expressive new colours that work well for both commercial as well as residential settings, including indoor and outdoor spaces. By retooling the mould, Juno 02 retains its sleek silhouette and strength but now requires less material than ever to produce. This lightweight, open-back chair is offered with and without arms, in exposed plastic or with a seat cushion applied without using glue, providing greater comfort in indoor applications. Comfortable and sturdy yet compact and stackable, Juno 02 is ideal for large-scale use, whether in hospitals, restaurants, offices, or public settings.
