Colab Launches the Region’s First
Digital Materials Library

Colab.digital aims to provide material inspiration and serve as a one-stop  solution for material sourcing

Colab, the first purpose-built material library in the UAE based in Dubai Design District (d3), has announced the launch of Colab.digital, the region’s first digital materials library, which will enable specifiers to learn about new materials and connect with suppliers. Designed exclusively for interior designers, architects, contractors, manufacturers and industry professionals, the platform is an online database of both commercially available materials and cutting-edge innovative materials. The aim is to allow users an opportunity to learn about materials and their applications and have the option to then contact suppliers directly.

Embracing the digital era, Colab.digital is an extension to the physical material library in d3  and aims to educate and inspire the design and build community by expanding their material  palette and highlighting ways in which they could work with new materials, all online and  from the comfort of their offices or homes. The platform is free to access but professionals  need to sign up and log in with their verified credentials in order to learn more or contact  suppliers. Not only will Colab.digital streamline communication between specifiers and  suppliers, but it will also throw the spotlight on some of the most innovative materials from  all corners of the globe.

The world’s first Carbon tile made from air pollution; Sea Stone – a sustainable material made  from wasted seashells; PineSkins – a versatile, leather-like material made from the inner bark  of pine trees; a sustainable construction board material made from a combination of enzymes  and cellulose taken from the waste streams of paper production; and unique recycled leather obtained from industrial glove off-cuts are some of the materials listed on Colab.digital. Users are encouraged to search for materials online and then visit Colab to view samples.  Colab will also be distributing a sample box of materials to interior design and architectural  firms in the UAE throughout September.

“The global pandemic has made the digital future a reality for millions across the world. Given  the technology that exists to help us continue working and learning online, Colab.digital aims  to host more than 1,000 materials from across the world. All materials will be indexed and  cross-referenced making it easy for users to search for materials. The platform will also  highlight material news, projects featuring the use of innovative materials and new ways of  working with materials. Building on our physical material library in d3, Colab.digital aims to  provide material inspiration for users and a one-stop solution for your material sourcing  needs,”
