Design Color Trends Evoke Serenity and Calm as Companies Invite Employees to Return to Work

Calm, neutral tones from the updated Interface Ice Breaker collection bolster designers’ flooring palette choices

The Ice Breaker Collection

The spaces where we work, live, learn and socialize have blurred over the past 15 months. New hybrid work models are emerging as local municipalities lift restrictions and companies, eager to reinvigorate culture, connectivity, and collaboration, encourage their employees to return for periods of face-to-face interaction.

Designers at Interface, a worldwide commercial flooring company and global leader in sustainability, were inspired by residential design trends for the company’s refreshed Ice Breaker carpet tile collection color palettes, creating a comforting and serene flooring option for employees as they return to their workplaces.

“Choice, familiar in-home colors and simple multi-use spaces will help welcome teams safely and comfortably back to their workspaces” , “Working with our customers we can see how their needs have evolved in the past year. The move to create spaces with flexible design elements to support a hybrid model of work and home is paramount. We also continue to see the importance of bringing in natural elements that have been so vital to our wellbeing over the past year into indoor space design.”

Mandy Leeming, Design Director, EAAA Interface

Through focusing on the customer desire for natural texture and taking inspiration from colorways more typically associated with residential design, Interface has bolstered its Ice Breaker carpet tile collection. Paying homage to the cracking and crazing found on frozen water, this launch includes 16 new colorways in the Ice Breaker collection. Building from the grey foundation, there are new warm neutral tones of oatmeal and soft mushroom to create a comforting base, while peach and muted pink shades foster a sense of calm and serenity. The palette also allows for pops of color to support zoning as users navigate a space.

The Ice Breaker Collection has a carbon footprint (cradle to gate) of 4.5kg, total recycled and bio-based content of 89.5% and comes as standard with CQuest™Bio, our new non-vinyl, non-bitumen carbon negative backing. By specifying the Ice Breaker Collection, customers are selecting carpet tile that is carbon neutral across its full product life cycle through the third-party verified Carbon Neutral Floors™ program.
