About the project
Working in collaboration with The Morris Project, DesignLSM were commissioned to create an inspirational space covering the 2nd floor of 22 Bishopsgate – a new 62 story building in the Capital, heralded as the UK’s first wellbeing building. Tasked to create a timeless and highly polished aesthetic for the environment, the space up for development consisted of The Market, including a Food Hall (with a wine bar and shop), Culture Centre, Speak Easy, and Restaurant and Terrace, spanning 20,000 ft.
Drawing its vision from the crafted ethos of the London guilds, the design set to encapsulate the noble objective of providing welfare to its members. Evolving this approach, user experience and human interaction was at the core of their concept.
Whilst bright and textured glass were used to add colour, reflection and depth to the space, the inspiration for tasteful design came from the desire to form a relaxed and welcoming environment by using neutral colours to create a warm ambience, interspersed with plush furniture for comfort. With the ambition to create an environment that nourishes the community’s wellbeing and presents a place to gather and share ideas, creating a sense of ‘home from home’ where guests feel comfortable and relaxed in was vital.
Pioneering several new design environments, the space was brought to life with bespoke elements including lighting and joinery to compliment the refined interiors.
Partnering with artists from the contemporary arts society, the striking hand painted mural gave the design a burst of personality, uniting the space whilst reflecting the very essence of what the environment represents: creativity, sharing of ideas and collaboration.
