About the project
Al Bandar Rotana, Dubai is situated on the north shore of the Dubai Creek, and recently opened its doors after completion of its interior design works that was led by LW Design. The client requested for a light, fresh and airy environment set against the spectacular backdrop of the Creek. The fit-out was executed by Decovision.
Though the hotel is very architecturally-oriented, the designers produced different levels and layers to soften the interior while respecting the verticality. The use of strong colours and the play of patterns at high level adds to the strength of the overall space, allowing natural light to pour through while retaining a calm influence at ground level. The light wall material and accentuated colours on the furniture, combining with key elements and accessories bring diversity to the place but collectively create a comfortable and fresh environment.
On entering the lobby, the eye is drawn upward to a majestic architectural feature, a skylight that casts natural light down throughout the shaft and onto the balconies around. A panoramic lift offers guests an interesting vertical experience, as the view changes from each floor due to the geometric screens enclosing parts of the balconies. The grandeur of the lobby sets the tone for other parts of the hotel, all of which equally draw on the striking architecture of the building.
The lobby exudes an elegant welcome. Seating areas are arranged with modern furniture placed on hand-tufted woollen rugs, whose lines and textures create a warming contrast with the vast marble flooring and wall cladding. Deep purple shades oppose the more neutral monochromatic colours that have been used for upholstery. Throughout the hotel, a theme of natural elements is woven into the interior design.
One of the most striking features of Al Bandar Rotana is how seamlessly the public spaces blend into the rooms and suites. The accommodation offered within the hotel varies in size and each room offers something unique. But the overarching theme of nature is prevalent throughout. Patterned wool rugs, hanging glass lamps, mirror and stylish textured art create a refined ambience in the lounge areas. A neutral colour palette dominates the bedrooms, broken up with pops of colour in cushions and rugs.
The breakout spaces leading to the meeting rooms provide a more ‘moody’ feeling with the patterned ceiling creating a woven structure, in which the lighting is carefully integrated and offset by the surrounding dark ceiling. The furniture also complements this darker approach, sitting on a rich bespoke patterned carpet over a dark floor tile.
The Meeting rooms themselves are a contrast, providing a lighter, fresher and airy approach, but at the same time maintaining some of the breakout elements such as the dropped ceiling panels, inserted air grills and lighting that enhances the overall space The seating is light coloured and comfortable but exudes an executive feeling, while the tables are light and easy to move. Beautiful backlit panels provide a delicate offset to the strong dark patterned walls, while at the same time creating a unique identity for each space.
