About the project
The Al Manara Luxury Collection Hotel, Aqaba, designed by MMAC Associates, is nestled along the manmade Saraya Lagoon and the Gulf of Aqaba, and draws inspiration from the ancient port city of Ayla, which played a significant role in the spice trade route that connected the Mediterranean Sea with the Arabian Peninsula. The fitout was executed by Ergo Home Group and the project management undertaken by the architects, P&T Architect and Engineers.
For this project, the designers immersed themselves in the Jordanian culture, using a design process symbolic of layering in painting – an underlying base coat of distinctly Jordanian cultural trends marked with Arab design elements, detailed craftsmanship including bone and brass inlay and embroidery, and a strong emphasis on the stonework. Materials and colours were added to this canvas to accentuate the seaside ambience.
The design of the guest rooms and suites was inspired by the old houses of Amman, preserved as part of Jordan’s cultural heritage. The stonework, custom-designed terrazzo tiling and beautiful wrought iron craftsmanship have all been integrated into the design. Also accommodated are three gourmet restaurants, speciality shops, private villas, a spa, multiple swimming pools and endless stretches of secluded beach.
