About the project
Designed by Chris Barnes from Broadway Interiors, and fitted by Dutco Styles and Wood, this unique Asian dining venue offers a heady, exotic ambience, featuring a restaurant paired with a bar and lounge. Located on the sixth level of Pier 7, Asia Asia opens onto a moodily lit reception, and a corridor filled with traditional Chinese decor invites guests in via strategically placed authentic Asian artefacts.
The design concept embraces the diverse aspects of Asian culture, and seamlessly integrates individual, themed lounges, offering an informal atmosphere amidst an ornate interior. The lounges have been named and designed after exotic destinations, such as Thailand, Shanghai, Macau and Kyoto, with each of them offering their ambience.
The DJ booth is the focal point of the bar, while elevated bird cages, a rich colour palette of bamboo pressed veneers, coloured rice paper simulations, and decorative framing surround the Chau gong. Oriental sushi art has its own unique Zen surrounding, with illuminated onyx covered in ‘Shodō’ (calligraphy) and slate walling. This area lies in close proximity to the kitchen for typical Japanese efficiency.
In addition to private booths, diners can also relax in the outdoor seating that offers panoramic marina views. ‘Hakkas’ placed sporadically, are subtly diffused by colour-changing LED lights, creating a Mandarin ambience.
