About the project
The Bar Muda, was envisioned as a space that encapsulates the comforts of a local pub but in a lush setting. The intricate woven furniture and hardwoods used create a comfortable atmosphere with understated opulence out of a colonial setting. MMAC Associates have designed a versatile space with a cigar lounge, light bites and entertainment that enriches the experience of a timeless colonial setting. The Bar also, boasts a casual yet rich games room, which is yet another nook to relax and enjoy a good game on the television. A tasteful selection of artworks and accessories consisting of quality colonial imagery, reminiscent of a 1940’s seaside travel narrative and traditional masks punctuating the space, breathe life into the concept with the authentic feel of the space. Aati Contracts executed the fit out requirements of the project.
All the fabrics, the woods, the leather, furniture and the decorative accessories have been carefully chosen to transcend a sense of authenticity and timeless elegance. American white oak is profusely used on the walls, the floor and the fitted furniture. Reclaimed bricks are completing this material palette for more realism. The custom made furniture is mostly covered with real leather that will gain patina over the years. This outlet has been laid out to offer various areas suitable for each guest. The central circular bar sites majestically at the heart of the busy area exhibiting proudly a wide range of sophisticated spirituous. Just next to the bar, a small stage is tucked away to allow for a few musicians to smooth out the atmosphere. Later in the evening as the music gets louder, some of the guest may choose to stand up and dance to languishing Cuban jazz tunes. In front of the bar, a few higher tables offers the possibility to dine on spicy tapas while enjoying the activity and the music. The seating is casual and comfortable and design to extend onto the terrace through wide open doors. A lounge area behind the bar offers beefy leather sofas and comfortable armchairs for a more relaxed or romantic guests. A large collection of exotic memorabilia and old photographs covers the bleach oak wooden cladded walls to enhance the residential feel of this corner. A game room with a large pool table will be kept simple. Old brick walls are covered with a collection of African memorabilia and old photographs. The seating composed of simple wooden tables and booths remain simple. Large TV screens can be clearly visible from any seat as this room remain dedicated to watch sport games. The lighting & the sound system are not overwhelmingly visible but are extremely well thought through to support the specific moods of each area.
