About the project
Located on the ground floor of the new Hotel Jen Beijing, Beersmith welcomed its first guests in May 2017 along with the opening of the anticipated Shangri-La operated millennial hotel. As the name implies, Beersmith features a unique in-house craft brewery showcasing exposed copper vats. The signature vats are adorned with Chinese zodiac signs in polished stainless steel contrasting with the copper surround, which acts as the backdrop for the stage. Stickman Tribe drew inspiration from an ancient Chinese stamp and re-imagined it in a contemporary form to create the intricately embossed concrete and brass fascia of the beer vat riser.
Multi-textured and coloured palette of reclaimed wood, triangular pattern tiles and exposed ductwork create a hip yet timeless space perfect for enjoying a casual drink, or a night out with friends. Featuring a stage for live music and a sports area with self-service beer taps, the bar itself is dominated by an attention grabbing series of curved metal pipes, feeding the taps from above, dedicated to great beer and an inescapable impression that the taps are connected to the heart of the brewery itself. An impressive full height gantry made out of black powder coated stainless steel acts as the backdrop of the bar while a distressed oak bar top softens the balance between hard and soft finishes. A reclaimed I-beam is cleverly recessed in the concrete finished bar front doubling up as a design detail as well as footrest for the guests.
A combination of colourful geometric cement tiles and timber panels are used to define the strategically layered seating clusters. Bespoke light fittings add ambient and warm lighting suitable to set the mood for a unique culinary experience.
