About the project
Black Pepper is a restaurant located in the city of Meknes, with design that centres around the concept of the seasoning and a pepper mill. Soft afternoon Moroccan sunlight filters through a dense network of louvers revealing a double height space and unique materials. A mezzanine area, which is part of the public seating zone, hangs over the main space and gives a glimpse of the kitchen behind a set of portholes. Downstairs, a bar and show kitchen sit in open view. Raw materials, such as burnt wood, dark brick and concrete, form the major design components. Leather, cedar from a local forest, and black marble with white veins from a local quarry, form the main finishes of the furniture and surfaces, and our beautifully set in with precision and refinement showcased in the details. Green plants in huge terra cotta jars punctuate the space, bringing an uplifting and fresh essence to the interior.
