About the project
Perkins+Will were appointed in March 2013 by BP plc to design their flagship head quarters in Dubai. Bower Wick Interiors was responsible for the project’s fit-out requirements. The team were challenged with delivering a forward-thinking, fresh and branded space for one of the world’s leading international oil and gas companies. BP had occupied the same space in Dubai for fifteen years and had settled into a way of working that needed to be challenged.
Care was taken to deliver a space that responded to BP’s requirements by ensuring that the companies brand and philosophy were reflected in the space. The strong brand guidelines combined with a commitment to safety, respect, excellence, courage and a “one team” philosophy created a unique narrative that informed the team’s design.
Additionally, each of BP’s brands has its own heritage and personality, and it was necessary to find a common thread. The team found that a common thread joined them: each symbolize, embody or provide tremendous energy. The clearest representation of this thread was the Helios design of their logo reflected this philosophy: energy encapsulated.
The Helios was integrated into the reflected ceiling in the reception to create a fresh, stunning first impression on visitors to BP’s flagship headquarters. Along with the Helios, the front of house spaces contain meeting rooms, boardrooms and a small cafe area, which also functions as a touchdown area.
The back of house areas contain an open office space that facilities multiple methods of work in the modern age. Touchdown areas, phone booths, meeting rooms and tradition open plan desks allow staff to work in multiple configurations and styles. A strong yellow band that wraps and connects spaces, symbolic of the energy that connects us all, connects these open plan spaces.
BP have been long established in the region and the decision to move into new premises was a clear statement of intent for this international oil and gas giant. Perkins + Will provided a space that is ideally suited to their brand, philosophy and needs. The design process was highly collaborative resulting in a vibrant innovative space, which supported the needs of BP’s ever changing work requirements.
