Capital Health, Abu Dhabi

Headquartered in Abu Dhabi, Capital Health is a private integrated healthcare group that currently operates two separate healthcare facilities, the Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital and the Health Shield Medical Center. The Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital provides acute and long-term rehabilitation care, along with inpatient, outpatient and Home Health capabilities. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment.

Project Managers 3SixtyConsult were engaged by Capital Health to devise an innovative procurement and delivery strategy, which would fast-track the hospital, given the growing demand for this first-of-a-kind facility in the UAE. 3Sixty managed the entire process through to completion.

Designed by HLM Architects, the client brief was focused on ensuring that breakthrough therapy could be provided in a healing space that felt more homely and much less institutional than traditional hospitals.

Wates Construction and Eastern International were appointed for the main contracting works that ran in parallel with client briefing, specialist healthcare vendor input and the multi-package procurement process. This approach demanded extensive coordination and collaboration between the entire project team.

Spread across nine floors, Capital Health aims to revolutionise rehabilitation care in the region by offering a progressive model of care through seven core centres. Behind a prominent façade lies over 160 private patient rooms, endurance suites, and an Aqua Therapy suite, all designed with patient healing at the heart of the concept. The centre’s key focus is on long term patients, and so the spaces are fitted with the latest technological, diagnostic and therapeutic tools, essential to the quality of inpatient treatment as well as after care.

Keeping in mind the progressive yet comfortable and inviting appeal required by the client, and given the fast-track requirements, 3Sixty and HLM selected high-end modular solutions that could be upgraded to suit the ever changing healthcare environment. One of the highlights included state-of-the-art bed wall panels installed in patient rooms, provided by NMG. The challenge was to conceal the medical infrastructure and create a less clinical atmosphere. NMG also provided the loose furniture for the hospital, implementing HLM Architects’ design. The end result was the birth of a modern healthcare facility with a personal touch.

Modular patient bedroom ensuites were also utilised to guarantee quality, improve site efficiency and provide programme certainty.

The Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital has been nominated for the International Project of the Year at the Building Awards to take place in the Grosvenor House in London this November.
