About the project

Eugénie Istanbul is located on the ground floor of famous Art Nouveau style Papadopoulos Apartment, in Lüleci Hendek, one of the streets with the richest historical texture of Galata; İstanbul, Turkey.

The concept of the place, which is located in a historical texture, dates back to III. Napoleon’s wife, Empress Eugénie of France, visiting Sultan Abdulaziz at the Beylerbeyi Palace. The meals served out at the Beylerbeyi Palace in honor of Empress Eugénie who inspire the whole menu of the venue. Dishes such as Hünkar Begendi, Circassian Chicken, and Bread Kadayif at this event are the iconic choices of the menu, adapted in different ways today by Eugénie’s chefs.

The love story of the Eugenie and Sultan Abdulaziz, has been a source of inspiration for us as well as we aimed to take our guests on a journey into the past.

Beylerbeyi Palace was our starting point in interior design. We interpreted the arched windows of the palace in a more modern way. These windows of the Papadopoulos apartment, which is open to the historical brick texture, with the porcelain plates depicting Istanbul by the famous artist İsmail Acar, expanding the framework of the perception of integrity.

Renda Helin Design combined the orientalist lines with the use of terrazzo and tones of terracotta in the space where Designers reinterpreted the touches of French and Ottoman architecture in all details, especially in the product and furniture selections. At the same time, Renda Helin Design brought a seating arrangement that reflects the atmosphere of the French streets to a historical place.
