Heart of Sharjah Sales Office, Sharjah

The office for Shurooq (Sharjah Investment and Development Authority) approached Maja Kozel Design to design the interior of the sales office of the Heart of Sharjah.  The building is a restored house that has been designed by WMPA (the lead Architect) and AlBeit Eng. The interior design is inspired from its surrounding of the traditional and new architecture and materials used with a twist of modern materials and muted tones. It reinterprets the traditional heritage aesthetics and elements using modern materials and aims to complement the exterior.

Entering the office gives you a feeling of calmness in the busy Heart of Sharjah area. As this has been a heritage site, the old structure of a house with the two courtyards is the footprint of the design. Using the courtyard as the centre point of the design, having the offices and meeting area’s connected to this for always having natural daylight and a beautiful view. The interior itself is designed to be subtle and minimal, it is all about the experience of the space, which is unique, true to the Emirati culture and forward-looking in its fusion of the old and new narratives.

Concrete and wood give a raw feel to the space, which is contrasted with the smooth black metal. The colour scheme is monochromatic, emphasizing on textures and patterns. The lighting is designed to be both functional and aesthetical with pendant lighting, indirect lighting and wall lighting, which washes beautifully on the textured plastered walls. Acoustics where taken into consideration using perforated ceiling panels. Ahrend has been the main office furniture that has been selected throughout the office. All the workstations from the team desks to the top management have the same furniture type, with different sizes and applications. The Portal desk is clean and simple, with oak table tops and black metal legs. The soft seating is minimal with clean lines in muted tones, that fit well with the entire colour scheme of the interior.
