About the project
Hotel Jen Beijing, the second tallest tower in Beijing opened its door in May 2017. Located in the heart of Beijing’s business district, the 450-key hotel boasts some of the best views across the city. Stickman Tribe tailor designed the hotel for the millennial guest aiming to create a new age legacy for the reputable Shangri-La group. The guestrooms were designed with individual guest profiles in mind specifically geared towards a new generation of young entrepreneurs, artists and urban explorers. From that point onward, the public areas and F&B were designed for these specific guest profiles, what would they like to do? What would they like to eat? How would they like to work?
Aiming for this hotel to be the flagship for Hotel Jen brand, the design captures the fun and out of the box brand essence of Jen but with a unique twist. Featuring an in-house craft brewery, a farm-to-table restaurant, two-story state of the art fitness centre and a new-age co-working space, the hotel is designed to meet not only the needs but also the life style of its target guest.
A base palette of oak, concrete, white marble and black metal detailing is found throughout forming the DNA for the hotel. The rooms follow the same aesthetic however are designed individually to suit the different profiles defined at the onset of the project; for instance, the artist inspired room features a built in window daybed and a bespoke headboard inspired from a Chinese warrior’s armor whereas the Entrepreneur’s room is space planned efficiently to have a working desk along the window incorporated between a TV unit and a small built in sofa allowing a 3 point service that suits the practical and effectual nature of this particular guest.
Creating an unmistakable taste of what’s to come, the clean and contemporary lobby grabs the guest’s attention from the very first moment, immediately establishing the hotels credentials as something new and fresh. As well as being, efficient, practical and contemporary, the space remains natural and organic. A palette of black powder coated metal, distressed oak and patterned marble creates an airy, elegant feel, whilst conversation stopping dramatic moments are scattered throughout; including a porte cochère elegantly draped with suspended porcelain leaves, oversized frames that act as unique seating and of course the breathtaking porcelain tree set within its own reflection pond, capturing that all-important frozen moment in time.
