About the project
The driver for this project was flexibility and the idea behind it was “re-use”, as fixed furniture was avoided where possible for the Mastercard Butterfly Project. The furniture system had to be flexible to allow the furniture to be re-used in a building shape that was at that time unknown. Collaborative furniture such as pods that could be easily relocated was favored as part of the overall design approach.
KannFinch and KPS avoided installing a ceiling for much of the office although the edges were tidied with a plasterboard bulkhead that in places slashes diagonally across the space to create a visual datum. The soffit above was painted white rather than black to preserve a sense of height and space.
The hexagon carpet allowed us to playfully introduce the Mastercard brand colours into the open plan but also to zone areas for function, for instance we used a green tone to indicate areas for collaboration.
