About the project
myGini Office, San Francisco was designed by Istanbul-based Ofist. The office is located in a characteristic brick building that was built in 1858, and it captures a design line that respects space without competing with the area.
myGini is a mobile banking app for banks and financial institutions founded and developed by Mehmet Sezgin and his team in the United States. Located in the financial district, they chose this beautiful brick building, constructed in 1858, as their base point.
The designers found it quite easy to design for such a characteristic space, as the strong character of the space was already a guiding factor. According to the designers, the building offered a strong core to rely upon and build on. On the other hand, it also created some limitations. Therefore, they had to find the balance required and this was at times restricting and difficult. Every element that had to be integrated, as part of the design, had to install itself into the environment without racing with its existing strong character and get along well with it. Therefore, the focus was to enhance and emphasize the existing design.
With this basic purpose, Ofist designed the space for its new function and users. Adding the necessary functions for today’s new generation office program, just enough to meet their purpose. The aim was to create an open, comfortable, friendly, fun, non-hierarchical working space. Very sleek, mostly white, simple, modern forms were added, creating a contrast with the existing homogenous warm colours from yellow to red and brown.
The colours were chosen to integrate and enhance the strong textures of wood and brick. Besides colours and graphics for the branding, enhancing the contrast and lighting up the space was another element of the design. The rest is up to its new inhabitants to settle in and enjoy.
