About the project

Located at Warqa Mall, Patchouli Flower Shop & Cafe, Dubai was intended to be a venue that would be an inspiring and harmonious place that would bring together two venues – the flower shop and the cafe. The client wanted to create a place in which their guests would be able to relax and enjoy their time in the open and light space.

Albal Design Studio‘s conceptual idea was to create a happy place – a space that would reflect the mood and the feeling when someone surprises you with a flower bouquet. A place that was light and colourful and would reflect the flowers and the seasons like spring and summer. The design also takes inspiration from soap bubbles flying in the summer wind.

Pinnacle Interiors executed the fit-out of the space and Albal Design Studio also followed the project management process to ensure the correct implementation of the design.

The interior design is elegant, modern and romantic with clean shapes and playful colours. It has been designed to be a place to enjoy the time you spend with a coffee while waiting for your flower arrangement to get ready. The design language is dominated by colourful holographic flower wallpaper, which is installed on the main wall. It dips the client into a spring flower field and surrounds the café lounge area with the atmosphere of summer.

The circular mirrors in copper and gold, installed on the ceiling and on the wall, reflect the flower wallpaper and expands the effect further. The hand-blown glass pendant lights are installed in different levels on ceiling mirrors and link back to the soap-bubble inspiration. The shapes are inspired by the clean curved lines of flowers and are also used in the graphic ornament of the company logo.

Most of the furniture has been designed by Albal Design Studio to suit the project and manufactured by suppliers in the UAE. The material and colour selection supports the elegant, feminine design language of the space. The colour palette is influenced by nature – the tones are soft pastels in light green, apricot and light grey.

The materials used include marble, white marble, brass-coated metal and soft velvet fabrics, as well as concrete tiles and concrete-coloured walls. The objective was to create a place to relax and chill in a calm, elegant surrounding, without being overwhelmed by the colours. The design also intended to create a contrast between the selected materials.
