About the project
The work and operations headquarters of Philip Morris Sabanci Sales and Marketing Office, Istanbul is located on Kağıthane Cendere Road, which is the business and commerce axis of the city. The design, drafting and project management were carried out by mimaristudio. The office spaces are on a single floor and the remaining areas are the floors where the operations are carried out.
The office’s main entrance and security points are on the ground floor while the first floor, which can be accessed via the stairs or escalators, comprises the workspaces. Visitors are welcomed by an entrance arch that is designed to emphasize the corporate’s identity. This space provides direct access to the working, meeting and social areas.
The sales teams are grouped in the centre of the office floor. Teams who work in different areas are placed in close contact with their regional sales directors. Also, the directors are placed in the centre of the workgroup clusters. Considering the largeness of the space, both in area and volume, team shells combine two work groups but are designed to ensure that each workgroup has its own identity.
These shells respond to the physical, technical and technological requirements of the staff, both during their personal and teamwork, and is designed as space within a space. This approach creates many open sub-spaces within the main work area. It also avoids a showroom-like effect and creates a unique identity for each team.
Other units in the office are placed around this core and include open and closed meeting spaces and an open multipurpose hall. These spaces are also made easily accessible for the employees. The office floor leads to the open terrace, which is also linked to the dining and resting areas. These places form another radiant space of the office level with their design, materials and colours used.
The green lines function as natural separators that organize the units inside the office area. Plants that can sustain in a closed environment and are able to use the natural light that the place provides were selected in the landscape design. Colours that are darker than the general hue of the office were used and the effect is balanced through graphic design, landscape and lighting decisions.
The whole project took form with the application of contemporary forms, without diverging from modern architectural principles, and through careful selection of finishing materials. Staying within the total budget, the existing office furniture, which could be considered quite new, were reused with some additions and alterations. The space between the shells, that cover working clusters, are composed like streets. The material selection for these spaces is arranged to create a sense of continuity between the meeting and social spaces.
Natural wooden panels with different forms and textures are designed for the sizeable areas like the larger meeting room and the open multipurpose hall. The lighting design criteria were also set by the mimaristudio team. XAL Artemide Kvadrat Maharam Eijffinger Forbo Flooring Blux
