About the project

Rove City Walk is a low-budget traveler’s paradise in the heart of Dubai. The second of three Rove Hotels with interiors envisioned by MMAC Design Associates opened its doors at the iconic City Walk development by Meraas. This 3 star hotel carrying 566 rooms is perfect for anyone heading to a show in Dubai’s Coca Cola Arena. It is done to be an ideal place for guests to stay who are attending an event or organizing one.

Keeping up with the brand, the hotel had to reflect its location and culture, with pops of color and instagrammable memorable art. Taking from its location, the artsy modern theme was surrounded by music. Using music as MMAC’s main inspiration, creating a guest welcome experience by incorporating a DJ truck at the entrance and gives local DJ’s an opportunity to showcase their talent. MMAC Design had to create a space where everyone feels welcome, accommodates individual travelers, couples, friends and family.

The design has an option to match every traveler’s preference by creating experiences and small opportunities for guests to mingle, play foosball, dance, and chill-out. Being a budget 3* hotel with a strong character & a tight budget, the lobby has been as designed to allow the stunning exterior views to complete seamlessly from interior a not extra cost. The oversized wall graphics, handpicked accessories and quirky art installations are paired with the polished concrete floor, the chalk white brick walls and the blackened steel structures to strike the perfect balance between casual elegance and industrial chic while respecting a very stringent budget by avoiding a flurry of new & expensive finishes. The flashy yellow painted walls of an old shipping container used to hide the lift core, the bright second hand turquoise & fuchsia armchairs, the refurbished Volkswagen van turned into a DJ booth in the middle of the lobby were old specified to create a harmonious yet joyful party space blending perfectly within the new City Walk development while incorporating a sense of reprocessed authenticity. Awareness of each specified item’s carbon foot print was key in our design process to respect the engagement to sustainability of the hotel operator.

The unconventional bohemian tones of the seating elements are lined with a flurry of eclectic cushions that capture the playfulness that is so readily associated with the Rove brand. While designing this project, they focused particularly on materials with reasonable cost and its good local availability. They focused especially on material used for fitted furniture, and large quantity item such as doors, floor and wall finishes. Given a high focus on low wastage by repeated use of the same material throughout the project, they provided a cost effective and durable solution for their client.
