About the project
The Seafood market, Dubai wanted to renovate their space to expand their food offering while keeping the essence of the old space and its self-service experience. Designed by Broadway Interiors, the interiors of the market are styled in a contemporary theme, and includes intimate dining experience.
The designers drew inspiration from heritage of the fishing industry in Dubai, and took a modern approach by using textures and nautical elements, combining market charm with greater design detailing. The introduction of the tradition of Masgouf cooking, helped in removing the dated water feature and tank, creating natural daylight and a satellite cooking station as a focal point at the entrance. Aged whitewash brickwork acts as the backdrop whilst colour is introduced through shades of sea marine and aqua in the abstract carpets and soft leather lounge seating.
Sleek plaster columns representing marine vernacular were added, hanging nautical inspired brass ringed globe lamps with distressed timber capping and hemp adding embellishment. Centrally located, spanning across the two main dining areas is an inverted Dhow with a bespoke chandelier, designed to mimic the sea nets used for catching fish interlaced with LED lighting for the wow factor!
