About the project
The focus of the design was to capture the owners’ loves of flight, music and art in the space while also maximising views of its beautiful natural surroundings. Set against a sprawling mountain backdrop, the exterior of this home is architecturally stunning, with its dramatic curved roofline and grand entrance. The ‘wings’ that spread out equally from the center of the facade are intended to mimic those of a plane.
Inside, a two-storey wall of windows frames views of the expansive surrounds, and a soaring curved ceiling aligns with the exterior architecture. Dual ledgestone walls support the loft above, complimented by walnut hardwood ceilings, one dividing the living room with a two-sided fireplace, and the other separating the living and kitchen areas. The kitchen wall features built-in, teak veneer cabinets, two ovens and metal shelving that creates a sleek accent, an element carried through to the stairwell and fireplace design. The kitchen island is extended with an elevated waterfall granite breakfast bar and custom bar stools in a rich copper fabric.
The ledgestone and the metal railings and window trim match the exterior finishes and combine with the exterior’s redwood siding to create a cohesive modern look inside and out. The colour pops in the upholstery complement the bright hues in the artwork. The living room was designed around the clients’ elegant grand piano, creating an inspiring music area. A separate music room was created to be a more contemplative space, with acoustic wood wall paneling that was both functional and stylish. Bold, modern light fixtures added a finishing touch, and open glass shelving was built into the ledgestone to provide an eye-catching accessory area for the clients’ art and memorabilia.
