About the project
The Lounge Bar at the Radisson Blu in Ajman by DZ Design is a sepia themed lounge that conjures images of old school Hollywood. The sepia spectrum traditionally is considered more of a tone than an actual colour. The theme in context encapsulates the retro, old world charm within this luxurious 5 star hotel. The client, Carlson Rezidor Group, wanted this to be a new world gentleman’s club that transports you to the past with its mood and feel using modern design elements as a strong statement.
The Carlson Rezidor Group has ventured into luxury hotels with the Radisson Blu and this is the first one at the emirate. The expectations from the design were to be the best of what the emirate can offer as a licensed lounge bar. Antique glazed entrance door invites patrons to venture into this space, wander and enjoy smooth melodies by Frank Sinatra.
The hand drawn portrait of Marilyn Monroe leads you through an array of glass chandeliers, a view which is reminiscent of the 1970’s pop art and culture. This passage culminates with the large bar counter in stone which adds to the geometry of the design with the herrigbone stone counter with mirror insets and large columns which hold antique brass torch lights. High tables adjacent to the bar counter also serves as a zone to watch soccer or indulge in live music.
The operator and client advised DZ Design and V Create Interiors that the theme must invoke the five senses culminating in a sense of umami at the bar. DZ Design put together a palette of wood, stone, lighting and furniture to realize this theme. Reclaimed wood, use of textured stones like silver Travertine, Armani brown and custom designed furniture with a gentle mix of wood and stone added to the splendor of the design. The colours were carefully chosen to reflect these moods and antique mirrors were added to reflect this nostalgia. Brass accents appeared throughout the lounge bar.
