Wadia Ghandy & Co Office, Mumbai

Housed in one of the colonial heritage buildings in Mumbai, this leading law firm wanted to redesign their sprawling 6000 sq. ft. office space to suit the post-pandemic work culture. The fragility of the age-old building and the many structural columns in the space made this a rather tricky project and add to that, the client’s specific needs.

Innerspace Designs by Shefali Sanghvi took up the challenge and designed an office space that retained its aesthetic, flow and rhythm. Inspired by international law offices, the overall tone was minimalistic with subtle hints of colour and art enhancing the space. The colour palette, in the signature Innerspace style, was kept neutral with subtle hues and refined finishes.

Designed for returning office-goers after a long hiatus; glass was used extensively to usher in a sense of openness and transparency. Interconnected conference rooms were created with concealed panels in leather to modify the space as needed and enhance its functionality. The use of luxe materials like leather, solid oak tables and a walnut veneer gave it the much needed posh and sophisticated uplift. Travertine tiles on the floor sat in harmony with a fusion of

Armstrong and gypsum in the ceiling. And exquisite art pieces from the client’s collection were thoughtfully interspersed throughout the office to add a dash of personality. The intimate cabins were intentionally kept light to highlight the grooving panel detail which was also used in other areas to lend it a consistent tempo.

Since the building is an old construction, there were lots of odd corners that were effectively turned into cosy sit-out areas for their employees to unwind. The most challenging was the pantry area, which had an open deck that had to be fully restored. Tall glass windows were used to bring in as much natural light and liven up the space as to lend it a jovial charm. The bathrooms were done with mosaic tiles in all white giving it a classic look in keeping with the nature of the profession. Elements were carefully handpicked to ease maintenance. The metamorphosis certainly surpassed the clients’ expectations whilst multiplying the utility of their space and allowing Innerspace Designs to truly render their style aesthetic.
