About the project
Australian designer Michelle Taylor (MTRDC) developed a striking space in Southampton’s Westquay lounge by establishing a connection between the coastline that once washed the shores of the shopping centre’s current location. In doing so, the architect paid homage to the city’s historic coastline. This theme was carried through to the interior of the Westquay by suspending spectacular wavy veils made of Kriskadecor chains to evoke the sensation of water. Kriskadecor links were used for this installation in 4 colours: gold, green, lime and black. To recreate the effect of the natural contours of the rippling water ponds, more than 8611,13 sqft of chains were required. In addition, the rails were curved to create this fluid and harmonious structure.
