About the project
The Zale Beach Club at the Kempinksi Al Mouj showcases an interior concept reminiscent of Zanzibari heritage and the Omani seafaring legacy that has been so beautifully preserved. Designer Sarah Hamid of HBA envisioned these spaces, with fitout by S&T and project managed by WSP.
The beach club draws the wanderer into a space that tells the story of an early Omani coastal trading town. Covered as well as open-air spaces interlace, offering a variety of experiences – loungers, cabanas, sunken fire pit seating, and visually layered zones.
The materials used in the interiors are inspired by those traded by the Omani sailors with India, China and the Coast of East Africa – bamboo and rope ceilings, elaborate arabesque suspended lanterns, solid teak furniture, antiqued clay urns and coconut palm fibre woven seating. Pastels and subtle tribal patterns on the fabrics make a perfect palate for an ethnic, urban scene.
A great amount of research into Oman’s social, historical and cultural contexts revealed a rich tribal and maritime history, all of which went into the design concept of this club.
