About the project
GAO architects’ long-held vision to create an interior design connecting different forms ofartistic compositions came true when designing the London22 bar interior. Together with the prominent communication designer Radovan Jenko, who designed three conceptually differing wallpapers, GAO created a unique artistic composition that is minimalist, yet arouses curiosity, warmth and wit with its themes and humorous calligraphic texts as well as
illustrations. The cohesive thread of the space is the name – London22 – which was the result of designers’ research of the area surrounding the bar. They noticed that the district close to Dolenjska cesta road was regarded as London on Ljubljana maps. All designers identified with this theme that also corresponded to the owners’ wishes to form a widely known hang out spot. London22’s function has been well thought out, since the bar agrees
with different types of gatherings – the upholstered benches enable pleasurable coffee or wine dates.
The architects opened the space and gave it a functional meaning by creating a balance between the centre and the key sights of the place. The rhythm of filled and empty spaces follows a visitor’s path upon entering. The symbiosis between the owners of the bar, the design team and the communication designer resulted in an art-form-synergy creating a modern space (with clean lines and proper positioning of the volumes) that entices all
visitors who take pleasure in the Arts.
