About the project
Kaimakk a brand-new brasserie situated at the Istanbul Airport reflects Istanbul-based SANAYI313’s unique sensibility, layering maximalist details over minimalist interiors. For this project, SANAYI313 creative director, Enis Karavil, drew inspiration from Turkish culinary culture, architecture, and artisanal crafts. Kaimakk’s interior features opulent materials such as calacatta viola marble, cement, glass, travertine stone, and wood. The front entrance was imagined as a reference to the concept of “the gates of paradise” with wrought iron, peacock motifs, and navy curtains. The restaurant’s centerpiece is a mouth-blown glass and travertine stone fountain installation designed by Turkish contemporary glass artist Derya Geylani, who worked glass into amorphic shapes that resemble splashes of water and a hand-carved travertine body by artisan marble-mason Atalay Kömürcü.
