Athar by RAW

“Athar” is an outdoor friendly bench that has an intimate connection with landscape and history. It’s means print marks in Arabic; these marks that are found in our bench traces our culture and history through time and resembles what each piece went through. They were collected from our local farms in Liwa.

The bench expresses our culture through the selection of locally sourced materials. It’s inspired by the curves around us in the UAE; the dome of the mosques, dunes and calligraphy. Athar focuses on providing a sustainable design made of recycled dead palm fronds (palm trees) and stain-steel which can be easily found in our environment. The mirror on the bench reflects the natural environment surrounding it and it holds the palm fronds all in one. It was added as mean to hold our culture and identity and to past it to next generation. Both materials have low environmental footprints while also having aesthetic appeal and the potential to better connect materials with nature. Our aim is to raise an awareness and to make a contribution to our community. “Athar” encourages humanity to respect, protect and celebrate our connection to Mother Nature.
