Woven with Light by Point Concept

Inspired by Bedouin and Berber symbols as well as the long tradition of weaving, our aim is to connect these ancient cultures and traditions with modern technology to create a system, which can be applied on different furniture objects. Combining the works of local Emirati craftswomen and contemporary lighting, the objective is to create an installation with embedded symbolism / spirituality woven in, and shine light on the past. Through this, we will be reminded of the primary values that shaped early cultures and connected them to their surroundings and their identity.

Our piece uses symbols from the past that emphasize woman empowerment, not only through them but also through the means of production (made solely by local craftswoman). Additionally, our piece stems from a foundation of being sustainable with the materials used- recyclable aluminum and palm fronds, both locally sourced, which supports surge’s mission while celebrating heritage.
