Away from a formal conference setting, the ‘Power Breakfast’ morning will present a series of themes around practices, research, and pedagogies to be discussed openly and informally. The studio was the setting where skills and mentalities were elaborated and established, are there new learning patterns today that need better consideration?
Assessment
Assessment criteria, rubrics or learning outcomes are systems of measuring a student’s achievement, what are the current best practices?
Technology
There have been radical shifts in the role of different technologies, and they are often seen as a solution, rather than a tool to work with.
Research
Research contributions are highly valued by academic institutions globally; indeed, they are part of annual faculty appraisals and there is a real pressure to produce but what is design research?
‘Preparedness’
To contribute to the conclusions addressed above there will be an opportunity to discuss with the design industry, the theme of employability expectations and the core skills of graduate students.
