A Legacy of Design Excellence: Discover Three Contemporary Masterpieces from the House of Cassina

Renowned high-end Italian furniture brand Cassina has collaborated with some of the most acclaimed architects and designers of all time over its illustrious history of almost 100 years. Luminaries like Antonio Citterio, Afra & Tobia Scarpa and Philippe Starck are just some of the names that have designed contemporary masterpieces for the brand’s vast repository. Fully honouring Cassina’s values of authenticity, tradition, research, innovation, craftsmanship and production excellence, each piece is meticulously produced in Italy. Also, thanks to the work
carried out by Cassina LAB, the products best align with conscious living by incorporating circular materials and well-being-oriented features.

Esosoft by Antonio Citterio

Italian architect and designer Antonio Citterio made his debut for Cassina in 2022 with Esosoft, a modular sofa that embodies timeless elegance and style. Merging the past and future with shapes reminiscent of the casual sense of comfort typical of the 1960s, Esosoft draws upon contemporary production techniques, also thanks to the work of Cassina LAB. Circular materials like polyurethane foam that contains a percentage of polyols derived from biological sources and recycled PET wadding have in fact been employed in its production and both the single seat and the backrest cushions are padded with recycled blown PET fibre. The sofa is completed with a set of coffee tables.
“This product is the first step of a journey that will lead us to total circularity of products used in the furniture industry.” Antonio Citterio.

Volage EX-S Night collection by Philippe Starck

Celebrated French creator Philippe Starck presents a complete collection for the bedroom with Volage EX-S Night. This includes a bed fitted with an elegant headboard on which lighting and useful accessories can be suspended, a bedside table, a chest of drawers, a compact sofa, an armchair and a bench, all featuring the same elegant and harmonious concept.

The centre piece of the collection is the bed with its padded frame, ergonomic mattress and distinct headboard that features the same distinctive quilted capitonné upholstery as the Volage EX-S sofa, that has a special production technique patented by Cassina, where the traditional button has been replaced with an elegant stich to accentuate the model’s gentle contours. The fabric upholstered bed can be fitted with theBreath® zero-emission purifying fabric to favour the natural circulation of clean air and a sound absorbing panel in Soundfil®, a recycled, hygienic and non-toxic material that contains and decreases the reverberation of surrounding sound frequencies,
thus facilitating a better night’s sleep. From its decisive and radical metal frame, featured throughout the collection, to its soft and warm finishes the Volage EX-S Night collection elegantly combines and contrasts materials to create an elevated sensory experience. “Volage EX-S Night is timeless elegance, discreet elegance, human elegance.” Philippe Starck.

Soriana armchair by Afra & Tobia Scarpa

Denim, a cross-cultural trend, emblematic of 1950s rebellious youth and the counterculture of the 1970s, meets Soriana, a collector’s piece designed for Cassina in 1969 by Afra and Tobia Scarpa in an exclusive limited edition model of the armchair. In this most recent reinterpretation where fashion and design reach their utmost expression,
Soriana’s distinctive curves wear a premium Japanese denim, renowned and sought-after for its superior quality and selected with the support of a specialised denim expert. The fabric is painstakingly woven on smaller-sized antique looms used to produce selvedge denim, a word that derives from the expression “self-edge” in reference to the narrow, natural border left exposed.

The upholstery, available in indigo, ecru and black, is held in place by a large blue, white or black metal brace to match the respective shades of denim for a monochromatic version, or in a contrasting red that can be paired with any of the three shades, for a total of 150 limited editions of each.

The Cassina Perspective
Cassina, founded in Meda in 1927 by Cesare and Umberto Cassina, launched industrial design in Italy during the 1950s by taking a completely new approach that saw a shift from handcraftsmanship to serial production. The company has always had a pioneering attitude thanks to its commitment to research and innovation, combining avant-garde technological skill with traditional craftsmanship. Over the years, it has worked with important architects, designers and creatives to envision new forms and transform them into projects.

Today, ‘The Cassina Perspective’ expresses the company’s vision and values through an eclectic collection where innovative products and icons from the Modern Movement come together to create welcoming atmospheres, dialoguing according to a unique design code based on excellence. This holistic approach to the home, from the living and dining areas to the bedroom and outdoors, is completed with the Details collection of accessories and a catalogue of designer lighting. The same philosophy has also been applied to the hospitality sector and workplace with Cassina Pro, an ample selection of products certified for professional use, and the yachting world with a look-book dedicated to luxury boats.
