announces that Regional Managing Director Charlie Kelly, has relocated to Dubai to spearhead the next stages of practice growth

Exponential growth has seen dwp catapult, spurring the need for newly created roles

dwp | design worldwide partnership welcomes the relocation of one of the design groups key executives Charlie Kelly to oversee the future expansion of the business in the Middle East and into Europe. Currently Regional Managing Director for Asia and the Middle East, Charlie is now based in the Dubai studio. This follows closely on the appointment of Leonard Lee to the role of dwp Global Leader for the Hospitality design sector.

Over the past six months dwp has expanded into a number of new markets with projects won in Kyoto, Japan; Auckland, New Zealand; and Shenzhen, China amongst others. The firm has also this year announced new studios in Adelaide, Australia; Auckland, New Zealand and Shanghai, China to service the growing portfolio of projects. Charlie has his sights set on establishing a presence in Saudi Arabia and to develop dwp studios from the existing strategic relationships with design firms in Zurich, Switzerland; London and Manchester, UK.

Charlie has worked with dwp for ten years, having been based in Asia over this period, and previously held the position of Senior Director in Atkins, working in both the UK and Middle East.

“I’m thrilled to continue to serve our dwp clients and to take on the challenge of expanding our presence and capabilities further – we are a global architecture and design practice with a long and wonderful track record for multiple design awards and quality project outcomes. I have been incredibly impressed with the quality of the work of our creative team over the years, and their ambition to explore better outcomes for people and places in our communities.”

The ongoing expansion of dwp and the global collaboration between dwp studios and our signature partners has been made possible due our move to a cloud based infrastructure implemented in 2018 by group creative director Scott Whittaker. As a consequence, dwp was more smoothly able to overcome challenges brought on by the current global environment and keep internal collaboration as well as client alliance effective and efficient. Additionally we are able to extend various areas of expertise to all of our regions and clients.

Group CEO of dwp, Michael Hegarty, said: “We are experiencing unprecedented opportunities against a challenging public health emergency and associated economic context. As a global business we are investing in public wellbeing and our core portfolios. So we are absolutely delighted that Charlie Kelly has dedicated himself to expanding the business, and has relocated internationally to join our Middle East team and grow the capability for dwp across the world. He is a hugely respected architect and has led client engagement for dwp over many years. Like many countries where dwp has design studios, UAE has weathered the storm of the pandemic to date and dwp are stepping up to help rebuild our communities”.
