ODG is Officially Carbon Neutral

Climate change is an increasingly pressing topic nowadays on every platform. As part of the commitment towards Corporate Social Responsibility, ODG is  deeply involved  in playing its role and tackle the CO2 emissions. The amount of carbon emissions trapped in our atmosphere causes global warming. This is main cause of climate change, which effects include melting of the polar ice caps, the rising of sea levels, and extreme weather changes to name a few. It is therefore imperative to take corrective action, as global warming and climate change have become a global problem and this requires a clear, humble and honest approach to a solution.

ODG hired a certified Belgian environmental consultant, CO2Logic, in order to audit and analyse its office’s operations, wastage, corporate purchasing, IT equipment, utility consumption, business travels and home-to-work commuting throughout financial year 2019 and 2020. The process revolved around calculating, reducing and offsetting CO2 emissions.

In 2019, ODG calculated its emissions across the local operations, in 2020 the company reduced them by approximately 43% and the remaining which could not be reduced was then offset by absorbing an equivalent amount from the atmosphere through other projects. ODG’s conscious approach allowed to offset 92 tons of CO2 emissions, which as a result, allowed to reach the CO2 Neutrality.

Accordingly, starting April 28th, with validity one year (12 months), ODG has been officially certified CO2-Neutral Company. Carbon Neutrality means not adding new greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to the atmosphere. Additionally, with this accomplishment, ODG obtained a C02-Neutral Label in line with the PAS 2060, an international specification standard for C02-Neutrality, produced and published by the British Standard Institution (BSI). The CO2- Neutral Label proves a real and measurable commitment on ODG’s side for the climate. This is why the use of the CO2-Neutral Label must be done through a professional and rigorous method, in a spirit of mutual trust with the sustainability consultant. This label, in fact, guarantees the active calculation, reduction and compensation of the company’s local and global climate impact.

Historically, ODG started to push the accelerator on sustainability at the beginning of 2018, in an effort to zero the use of single-use plastics within the local operations. With this in mind, the company managed to reduce plastic waste by 9,658 pieces per year. With more than 8 million tons of plastic going into the ocean every year, it is estimated that there will be more plastic than fish by 2050 and 99% of seabirds on the planet might have consumed some.

Moreover, ODG is strongly committed to develop sustainable solutions for its clients. The design team is, in fact, LEED certified. For clarity, LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a green building certification used worldwide. With this accreditation, the team can advise clients on environmentally sound design alternatives, allowing to achieve a professional result by also being conscious about the ecosystem.

With the officiality of company’s sustainable strategy, ODG aims to be recognized as sustainable design consultancy in the region, across verticals and services.
