Santoni Presents Almendra , the New Modular Lights Designed by Patricia Urquiola

On the occasion of the Salone del Mobile 2022, Santoni collaborates once again with Patricia Urquiola presenting, exclusively in its boutiques of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and Monte Napoleone, Almendra, the new modular lights designed by Patricia Urquiola for Flos, leading international-level manufacturer of top-end designer lights and innovative lighting systems.

Almendra is a modular, customizable and extensible lighting system designed for contract environments that have captured the new contemporary living and hospitality needs: spaces that, when it comes to aesthetics, atmosphere and sensuality, are inspired by residential. Designed by Patricia Urquiola, the Almendra system was born from an idea of providing a functional, efficient but at the same time gentle and soft light: an extremely comfortable emission, explains the designer, “like the one that caresses the leaves of a tree outside the window of one’s home”.

With Almendra, Urquiola constantly plays on the dualism of technology and nature: essential light sources, with diffusing elements that protect the light in a poetic way. Almendra in Spanish means almond. In Urquiola’s vision, the perfect organism to embody the union between nature and mechanics: a seed-container, a presence with a simple shape that is, however, the custodian of a source of precious energy, the fruit. Which it lets out gently, while opening up.

“I’m very pleased to consolidate the partnership with Patricia, whom I’ve always admired for her talent, her work and her exceptional personality, by hosting in our Milanese boutiques her new project for Flos during the most important design event. This edition of The Salone will be more significant than ever, thanks to innovative and engaging projects, the result of work and contamination between different realities, that share the same passion for beauty, as happens between Santoni, Patricia Urquiola and Flos.”

– says Giuseppe Santoni, CEO of the brand

“When I think of the almond tree, I don’t think only of the flowering branch. Almonds are organisms: the almond is not a fruit, it is a seed that is a kind of oval container, it must open to let the almond come out. They are very simple objects. We went from the leaf to something more fleshy, solid, which, simplified, became a lighting device. I’m pleased to see as Almendra lives in a very natural way inside Santoni’s space.”
