About Manit Rastogi

Manit Rastogi commenced his architecture studies at the School of Planning and Architecture (New Delhi) and the Architectural Association (London) with a post-graduate diploma with distinction in Sustainable Environmental Design under Simos Yannas and an AA Diploma with Honours, under John Frazer. The influence of all three programs has formulated and influenced his thinking to date, to create sustainable architecture through the framework of an evolutionary practice inspired by nature, emphasising passive design. Manit is the Founding Partner at Morphogenesis, one of India’s renowned Architecture and Urban Design practices, listed among the top 100 Architectural Firms globally.

Manit has worked across a diverse canvas ranging from architecture to urban design. His professional portfolio includes several commercial buildings, residential complexes, Smart Cities, significant institutions, offices, and hotels across India, Bhutan, South Africa, Nepal, Bangladesh, the UAE, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. He believes that each project must establish itself as a benchmark for innovative design by thinking systemically about sustainability to create an impact at large. This has resulted in the formulation of Morphogenesis’ copyrighted design philosophy S.O.U. L©, an acronym for Sustainable, Optimised, Unique, and Liveable. These parameters define the inquiry process that shapes the architecture of Morphogenesis, and this has conservatively resulted in:

Gross area of sustainable buildings completed: 50,000,000 sq.ft.
Freshwater saved: 22 billion litres
Energy saved: 4.1 million kW/hr
Reduction in CO2 emissions: 4.2 billion kg
Over 9 million sq.m. of built environment benefitting over 5,60,000 inhabitants

Manit is a thought leader in the field of sustainable design and has lectured extensively. He has been on numerous global jury panels and has also published several research papers pertaining to zero-energy buildings. Manit has co-authored Morphogenesis’ first monograph ‘Morphogenesis: The Indian Perspective, The Global Context’, published by Images Australia under their Master Architect Series. A winner of over 120 global awards and an author of over a thousand publications and journals, Manit is a Fellow of the IIA (Indian Institute of Architects), the RSA (Royal Society of Arts, UK), and a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Manit has had a significant influence on the emerging generation of Indian architects through his involvement in architectural education. He has been a role model in the profession and has served as the Director of the Sushant School of Art and Architecture. Further, his commitment to a sustainable environment goes beyond the realm of architectural practice. As a founder member of The GRIHA Council, India’s own Green rating system, Manit has worked with urban policymakers to spearhead initiatives with an emphasis on environmental sensibility and social welfare.
