The Drumlin_O6 designed by AAID is adapted from storage drums used to ration water supplies, and pipelines used to transport water across unparalleled distances, beyond human capability. The concept highlights a desire to communicate the depths that one has to pursue in order to avail of the requisite of water. This concept is depicted not only through the functionality of storage but the reuse of a water drum’s natural simplistic form.

The Drumlin_O6’s form not only produce’s a narrative but presents a solution to modern adaptive way of living, the cylindrical forms allow for an interactive and interchanging use, providing for a range of storage solutions and ratios.

Drumlin_O6 is created through the retrofitting of existing rustic storage drums, with an exposed timber insert, giving the drum a sense of gravity and pose. The gravitas of the Drumlin_O6 is held in a collective position using reused wedge timber blocks. All of the materials chosen have been utilized from waste materials within a workshop environment, allowing for a sustainable end product with minimal adaptation.

With the design of Drumlin_06 we seek to remember the ongoing challenge parts of the world have, on a daily basis, as SURGE’s initiative to supply crucial infrastructure; to provide accessibility to sanitized water, giving rise to sustainable communities.
