About the project

Issei means immigrant and represents the first genera-on of Japanese immigrants that based themselves in the Americas, and mainly Peru. The Designers Charlotte De Belle of Vertical Design and Janaika Elders of Urban Nest wanted to take the customers of Issei on this journey from water to land from Japan to Peru and show the Fusion of these two cultures and cuisines.

This journey starts from the moment customers walk out of the elevator straight into a long corridor with a neon light surrounded by a gallery wall art created by Vertical Design DXB introducing the journey from Japan to Peru by land and sea. These colorful patterns and fusion of the two cultures can be found throughout the restaurant’s design. The Interior Styling and curation of artefacts was done using Issei’s main branding colors. All the Japanese and Peruvian artefacts were handpicked by Urban Nest team and even imported from Peru. Highlights are the hand painted bulls of Prosperity “Torito de Pucarra” selected from traditional Peruvian artisans, vintage handwoven tex-les and Japanese ceramic brass teapots.

The ”Let’s get Pisco’d wall” is one of the main focal points in the restaurant and is in harmony with the rest of the branding colors of Issei and not take away from the breath-taking views. The use of plants and other biophilic elements transform the amazing rooftop restaurant into a lush oasis.
