About the project

In a fusion of artistry and culinary innovation, Allen Architecture Interiors Design (AAID) embarked on a momentous collaboration with client MJS to introduce the iconic Mr Chow brand to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Nestled within Riyadh’s prestigious KAFD, this inaugural Middle Eastern establishment marks a significant milestone in Mr Chow’s legacy.

Mr Chow stands as a global cultural touchstone, revered for over five decades for its fusion of sophistication, art, and immersive experiences. Hosting luminaries from entertainment, sports, politics, and beyond, it has etched its mark across the United States and the United Kingdom.

At the heart of this endeavor was a commitment to preserving Mr Chow’s essence while ushering it into uncharted territory. As a flagship restaurant, maintaining the brand’s ethos was paramount. AAID crafted a design concept for Mr Chow Riyadh that echoes the charm of its sister establishments, fusing modern deco with French-inspired elements to create a timeless aesthetic specifically tailored for the Middle East.

AAID’s meticulous design approach infused several notable features into the restaurant’s interiors. The ceiling, adorned with dynamic LED technology, seamlessly integrated local cultural elements into a contemporary narrative. The iconic circular elevator and towering 6-meter staircase, accented with modern touches, served as focal points synonymous with Mr Chow venues worldwide. The seamless fusion of indoor and outdoor spaces through an inviting terrace created a harmonious dining ambiance.

The restaurant’s interior boasts a collection of meticulously chosen materials. Chrome accents added modern luminance, complementing the timeless design. Limestone, selected for flooring and stairs, exuded grandeur while nodding to tradition. Black mirrored wall panels added depth and mystique, mirroring Mr Chow’s sophistication. Venetian plaster walls and columns wove a visual tapestry of history into the contemporary setting. Gun metal chairs merged comfort with modern design, reinforcing the restaurant’s elegance and functionality.

Stuart Allen, Founder & Managing Director of AAID, emphasized the meticulous application of a minimalist design aesthetic and the collaboration required to bring Mr Chow’s essence to the Middle East. The ambitious project within the KAFD financial district demanded dedicated teamwork, resource management, and a keen eye for seizing opportunities. As Stuart Allen, Founder & Managing Director of AAID, aptly puts it, “Minimalist design aesthetic relates the simplicity of the materials to be applied with great precision. To create an environment like Mr Chow in this region using local resources takes great collaboration, understanding, and craftsmanship.”

He adds ‘The collaboration and execution of this ambitious project within the up-and-coming KAFD financial district required a dedicated team effort, daily resource management, and a keen eye for seizing opportunities and overcome challenges’

This successful venture marks AAID’s second collaboration with MJS in Saudi Arabia, reflecting a productive synergy poised to redefine the region’s aesthetic landscape. AAID anticipates future opportunities to further shape the Middle East’s interior design and architectural experiences.
