About the project
The ‘Neue Direktion’ of Cologne is situated at a prominent location directly on the Rhine banks – in the immediate vicinity of the Cologne Cathedral and main railway station. The building, erected in 1913 for the former Railway Division of Cologne, was completely rebuilt and brought up to the modern state of construction engineering (DGNB Gold Standard).
Only the neo-classical facade and the imposing historic entrance hall, both listed in a historical register, had to be preserved and integrated into the new building so as to maintain its original look. For the roof, which was destroyed in the Second World War, a contemporary solution was developed. The modern, flexible office rooms are the exclusive „home“ of the European Agency for Aviation Safety.
