Padma Semarang is a five-star hotel located in the highlands of Semarang, it is close to the airport and business district of the capital of Central Java. Padma Hotel Semarang has 224 guestrooms and suites with stunning city and mountain views. Its presence marks the 5th hotel from Padma Hotels in Indonesia.

ara Design vision for the project is to create interior spaces that infer from the cultural heritage with the contemporary elements of Semarang as a city.

By embracing the dichotomies of “”Old and New”” and “”Past and Present,”” designers have established a seamless connection between the past and the present. The bespoke, vibrant spaces ara Design have created resonate with the culture of Semarang and Central Java as a whole. These interior spaces beautifully frame the natural environment, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor areas, while harnessing natural lighting and incorporating organic elements to define the spaces.

The interior architecture thoughtfully responds to the geography, topography, and culture of the region, seamlessly integrating with the overall architectural design. In line with our commitment to a non-literal “”sense of place,”” designers have embraced and supported local arts, artists, local artisans, local craft, and bespoke pieces throughout the project. The application of these craft cultures will be seen in interior architectural finishes as well as the different art and sculptural pieces throughout the guestroom accommodation as well as the public areas. Bespoke furniture pieces are locally manufactured as well as the area rugs and carpets.

Drawing inspiration from the colonial heritage – be it Chinese, Dutch, or Arab – ara Design have incorporated carved elements, patterns, fabric colors, art and accessory references, heritage architecture elements, and carefully selected materiality to infuse the space with the more contemporized undertones of the past. The meticulous attention to detail and sourcing of local materials have ensured an integrated design solution that is both “”local and global”” in its essence.

The result is a collection of well-appointed contemporary accommodation spaces that offer a home away from home experience, reflecting the contemporary spirit of Semarang while providing an urban resort-like ambiance that serves as a sanctuary from the city. Our natural, integrated, organic, and uncluttered approach to the project has culminated in a successful venture that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Semarang while embracing its modernity.
