After a series of transformative projects, including the success stories of Wavehouse, Blended Wellness, En Fuego and most recently The 305, the dynamic collaboration of Solutions Leisure and Bishop Design prevails once again. This time, as we bid arrivederci to Marina Social in the Intercontinental Dubai Marina, a sense of anticipation fills the air, heralding the arrival of a new Italian haven that will take its place. A retreat that beckons as a home away from home, paying homage to the enduring charm of Italy’s trattorias and the warm hospitality woven into its cultural fabric. Say ‘Ciao’ to Papas.
Set out to be a one-of-a-kind establishment, Papa’s joins the league of unique concepts birthed by the two powerhouses.
“The client’s brief was crystal clear,” noted Ranillo Elnar, Design Manager at Bishop Design. He highlighted, “We were to steer away from the beaten path of stereotypical Italian design. There was no need for excessive detailing; instead, our focus was on using signature details as effectively as possible and incorporating authentic elements such as lemon prints and striped fabrics in an innovative manner.”
The design narrative unfolds with the distinct presence of worn plaster and bare brick renders, harmonized by the allure of cracked leather upholstery and weathered surfaces. Each rustic element meticulously chosen to play a pivotal role in seamlessly transporting the essence of the outdoors inside, fostering a tangible connection with the charm and unique characteristics reminiscent of the Italian streets and architecture. This aesthetic stands in stark contrast to the more refined elements within, where the glimmering crystals of chandeliers add a touch of opulence. The intentional interplay between these distressed and polished features goes beyond mere aesthetics, contributing to an atmosphere that is not only rich in character and depth but also crafts a welcoming and distinct ambiance. It’s a symphony of the raw and sophisticated, beckoning patrons to immerse themselves in a nuanced fusion of design aesthetics. Paul Bishop, Owner and founder of Bishop Design, explained, “The overriding goal was to curate an experiential journey for guests, transcending the confines of a single destination. This approach not only diverges from the ordinary but also entices patrons to return, eager to rediscover different facets of a place they might not have explored before.”
