About the project

When the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg was unveiled, it became a beacon for both concert-goers and tourists, creating a hub that feels like home to everyone who visits. Tasked with this vision, WAGNER’s project team, led by comfort specialists, designed the restaurant, tasting, and shopping zones on the 5th, 6th, and 8th floors. Their goal was to craft a modern reflection of the northern lifestyle, infusing these spaces with a unique atmosphere that enhances the sophisticated food service and highlights the central theme of the “art of brewing.”

The collaborative efforts of WAGNER and designer Florian Kienast from formwaende resulted in a compelling space where the northern lifestyle is showcased through elements of rawness, simplicity, and consistency. Utilizing materials like raw steel, concrete, solid oak, and tanned hides, and complemented by sisal, blown glass, and concrete reliefs, the design emphasizes minimal surface reflection to highlight the authenticity of the materials. The color palette features Nordic blacks, greys, and natural wood tones, punctuated by the red of Störtebeker, creating a consistent, high-standard experience throughout the Elbphilharmonie’s food service areas.
