Tres Torres House, Barcelona

Barcelona, a city well known for its architecture, hides secrets in many of its corners, and Casa Tres Torres is one of them. This house is captivating not only for its location, but also for its privacy, orientation and the light it receives.

It is a single-family house that was built in the 50’s and was enjoyed as a summer house. With an area of 450 m², its architecture was completely integrated into the urban fabric. Working together with the architecture studio, The Room Studio developed the entire interior design project, an integral decoration project was carried out and the construction company The Room Work carried out the construction of the house. There was a great restructuring work to accommodate their wishes: the entrance to the house was modified and the staircase of the house was relocated. The client wanted a house that would maximize natural light into the interiors, eliminating as many partitions and existing walls as possible, opening the spaces to each other and to the garden. The spaces were sweetened with arches achieving more fluid transitions, as well as the staircase, which was treated with the delicacy of a sculpture, becoming the focal point, being visible from any angle. From the entrance to the house is a statement of intent in itself. The mirrors, strategically placed, amplify the spaces, hide the closets and project luminosity, offering a clear perspective all the way to the garden. On the other hand, all floors except in the wet areas were treated with natural wood parquet in 3D texture, inviting to go barefoot to connect with every corner of the house. All the spaces on the first floor merge with the outdoor garden and have an exit to the east side. They wanted the connection to be maximum, to enjoy the good orientation of the house and to make it an extension of the house. Simultaneously, the kitchen was extended to the outside with a dining and chill-out area with barbecue to spend long hours with friends or family enjoying nature. The back of the house maintains the pool, already existing in the past, but all the coverings were changed, creating a sense of continuity and benches around it to access the pool and in turn be able to sit around it. The upper floor is the client’s refuge: it is composed of the master bedroom, the children’s bedroom and a central common area where the children can spend long periods of time playing. The master bedroom is a succession of open spaces that begin with the bathroom, which incorporates a hammam-style shower, and then move on to the dressing area connecting to the master suite. The great height of the rooms was used to design a loft where the children could have a secret corner where they could read or play. In all the rooms the original wooden structure that gives so much personality to the project has been maintained. The bathrooms have been designed each with a unique and differential character, but maintaining a joint harmony that does not clash in colors and textures. All lighting has been meticulously designed to obtain lighting scenes that can transform the spaces according to the use that is given at all times. The control of the same, as well as audiovisuals, air conditioning and access controls has been done with a home automation system, ensuring an intelligent house adapted to the needs and preferences of the family. Finally, all the walls of the noble areas have been coated with hydraulic lime that generates a breathability and movement to the surfaces that give it a special character. In short, a global project that demonstrates that when the existing architecture is merged with a detailed and contemporary interior design work, a space is created that not only preserves the stories of the past, but is ready to create new memories.
