Please describe why your product can be considered ‘Sustainable’:
We have been producing luminaires for over 75 years, and have always paid close attention to the details and quality. Since 2020, we have also had ambitious sustainability goals, linked to the UN’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development, which provide direction for our sustainability focus and for how we contribute to society. Among other things, we want our luminaires to consist of 80% renewable or recyclable materials, and for all lighting solutions to have integrated lighting control by 2030. It is a challenging goal that energizes us and spurs our creativity when it comes to thinking new. We do not have time to wait for legislative bodies, but need to change course now. That is why we have begun our journey towards a more sustainable future. We want to learn how to improve and see how we can best reduce our carbon footprint.
Re:Use
Using virgin material or fossil substances is not a long-term solution. We therefore need a new approach to the flow of resources and devices in the manufacturing industries. By replacing the materials in the luminaire body with renewable resources* in our best-selling product, we reduce climate impact from the luminaire body by 83%. We hope that this choice can lead to a positive difference for the environment.
Re:Duce
By replacing the material in the luminaire body, from metal to cardboard, we have reduced the weight of the entire luminaire by 32%. A great advantage in both shipping and installation, both of which become smoother and easier.It is not just the weight that is lower, shipping volumes have also decreased by 30%. No plastic parts or non-recyclable packaging, only recyclable corrugated cardboard remains after installation. The instruction manual is printed directly on the back of the luminaire, so that it is always available for any future reference. By printing the instruction manual on the fitting itself we further manage to reduce the footprint.
Re:Make
Like the rest of the Multilume family, Multilume Re:Think is easy to install. Compared to a standard luminaire, it has exactly the same advantages and features – smooth installation with quick connections, high light comfort, integrated Organic Response sensors and the same long working life. The cover over the light opening is removed with a light touch, and after installation there is only the recyclable corrugated board to take care of. Nothing’s left out, it’s all in the box.
Re:Cycle
We are excited about a luminaire with a circular life cycle, which hopefully can be recycled several times. More than 90% of the luminaire can be recycled into new materials and the rest can be recycled into energy, i.e. district heating for households. The luminaire body itself, made of Swedish natural fibre and recycled materials, can be recycled to 100%. Maybe you’ll hold it in your hand again in the future, but then in the form of a milk carton?
