RMJM was founded in the United Kingdom in 1956 by Sir Robert Matthew & Stirrat Johnson-Marshall. Entrepreneurial & internationalist from the outset, a series of high-profile design commissions in London provided a platform for expansion outside the UK. By the late 1960s, RMJM was supporting the British Government, the United Nations and international governments on major projects across the Middle East & North Africa. This led to RMJM formally establishing RMJM in Dubai in 1970, before the formation of the United Arab Emirates. The 1970s saw the firm build its presence in Asia, starting to work in China from the mid-1980s. By the beginning of the 21st century, RMJM was involved in numerous high-profile projects, such as the new Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, the Gazprom Tower in St Petersburg and the Beijing Olympic International Broadcast Centre.
RMJM’s services include architecture, interior design, master planning, urban design, sustainable design and engineering. Alongside this, the firm offers arts consultancy, landscape design, preservation architecture, environmental graphics and visualisation services.
