About the project
Bosmal City Center was built in 2009, although the second tower has never been inhabited. The second tallest residential building in the Balkans, the client knew there was great demand for serviced apartments in the region, especially during the summer months. KST Interiors worked with Rotana to create their second European Arjaan outlet. The biggest challenge was taking a building which was 10 years old and updating it to modern standards. It was acknowledged that the typical Rotana brand standards needed to be adjusted to work in the European market, so KST Interiors worked with the Rotana design team to agree on a design scheme that reflected both the Rotana brand and also the local community. Working with local suppliers, artists and contractors, the result is a family friendly, modern scheme with some of the most stunning views of Sarajevo.
KST Interior worked with Rotana to create an entrance and lobby lounge which reflected the modern feel of the serviced apartments. The existing entrance was dark, dull, and very uninviting. Thick dark carpets, painted ceiling, and minimal lighting and in need of a complete refurbishment. The first challenge requested by the Client was to link the existing reception to an unused games room, which was to become the lobby lounge. The second was to transform the space into a welcoming, light and airy space. A challenge due to minimal windows and natural lighting.
In the entrance lobby, all dark finishes were stripped, the flooring was replaced with tiles in a chevron pattern and decorative light fittings were installed to create additional lighting, and interesting shadow patterns. In the lobby lounge a focal point was built that is visible from the main entrance as a way of linking the two spaces together and showcasing sculptures from local artists. The lounge needed to accommodate a variety of needs, so areas were created for individuals, larger groups, and a communal working table. Through the use of light surfaces and reflective materials, the once very dark space is now lighter and incredibly inviting.
